Campers are happier – it's official!
Camping actually makes you happier. That's one of the key findings in a landmark study, the results of which have just been released.
The study, conducted by both Liverpool John Moores University and Sheffield Hallam University and commissioned by the Camping and Caravanning Club, surveyed more than 15,000 people and has revealed that people who go camping are happier than those who don't go camping.
The Outjoyment Report, the culmination of more than a year's worth of research, including reviews of previous academic studies into the topic, has just been published and reveals some staggering statistics regarding the benefits of camping.
In terms of happiness:
- 97% of campers say happiness is their top motivator for going camping
- 48% of campers reported feeling happy almost every day, compared to 35% of non-campers
- 88% are less stressed than non-campers
We already know from our owner's group, Club CamperKing, that its members are enjoying feeling happier as a result of owning their campervans, and from using them to explore the great outdoors.
Trudi Fletcher, a Club CamperKing member, bought her van in 2019 with her partner Darren.
She said: "It has been the best thing for us both. We have joined a couple of campervan owner clubs and these have provided endless amounts of social opportunities which we could never in a million years have anticipated."
Club CamperKing members were among the 15,000 surveyed, as we asked our owner's club to complete the questionnaire back in February.
The report also noted the important benefits of camping to mental health and a greater understanding and appreciation of nature among campers, as key highlights.
