CamperKing supports brain tumour charity on Three Peaks Challenge
CamperKing is proud to have supported Oscar’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity during its recent Family Challenge, held over the Bank Holiday weekend (April 29 - May 1).
Members of CamperKing’s staff, including our owner Spencer Grey and family, had the privilege of supporting a wonderful group of individuals from the charity as they embarked on an arduous journey to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. It’s the third time CamperKing has been involved in the charity’s annual Family Challenge.
The challenge covers almost 26 miles across the Yorkshire Dales National Park and involves walking between and climbing to the summits of Pen Y Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m). This was the first year that Oscar’s had opted to tackle the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and it was made doubly difficult by torrential rain throughout the day (April 30).
Oscar’s was established in 2014 following the death of nine-year-old Oscar Hughes, who had suffered from neuroblastoma. Tragically, his father Ian Hughes, 49, and brother Milo, 5, also later succumbed to the same condition. Ian’s wife and mother of Oscar and Milo, Marie Hughes, is the figurehead of the charity, and leads fundraising efforts to ensure families suffering from similar conditions get the help and support they need.
Marie was interviewed with her son Lucas, 13, on Sky News by Kay Burley, following the walk.

We are delighted to share that having successfully completed the challenge, Oscar’s raised a massive £21,000 for its very worthy cause.
Phil Martinez, charity manager at Oscar’s said: “It was incredibly tough, but nowhere near as tough as life is for the children and families that we’re supporting. People have put in such an amazing effort, I’m so proud of them and I’m so proud of those who have donated to the cause.
“We’ve got a lot of families that are benefiting – in a small way as we’re a small charity – from what we’re doing, and these sorts of events make that happen and I just can’t thank people enough.”
Previously, CamperKing has supported Oscar’s by climbing Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, and taking part in the Waterfalls Trail, a walk near Ingleton in Yorkshire.
