Dan Walker: Trying my first campervan!

We are delighted to have provided journalist, newsreader and TV presenter, Dan Walker with his first-ever campervan experience!

Dan got in touch with us a few months ago to find out about trying out a campervan and we have been in discussion about this ever since. We were happy to finally welcome him through the doors of our HQ last week, and couldn't have been happier with his reaction and excitement for our campervans. We were especially pleased to receive a mention in his weekly column for the i newspaper! Here, Dan details his first-ever campervan experience in his own words...

"We have always been campers in our family. The vast majority of my holidays growing up were spent in my mum and dad’s brown and orange tent in a field somewhere. My wife’s family were also campers and we have tried to carry that tradition on with our own kids.

We love wandering around the tent section of any outdoors shop and we have bought and sold on more than our fair share over the years. We owned a trailer tent for a few a while but, the one thing we hadn’t done, was wander down the campervan road…until this summer.

I’d followed CamperKing on Instagram for a while and asked about the possibility of trying out one of their models for a week away. We borrowed a Santorini which sleeps 4 and has a hob, sink and plenty of storage. To put it simply, it was brilliant. Our 12-year-old son loved sleeping in the roof and I don’t mind telling you that, on the surprisingly large pull-out bed below, I had the best night’s sleep I’ve ever had on a campsite.

 
We loved the week and it’s great to be able to pack it all up and drive away at the end of it. The service from CamperKing was amazing. I think the only thing we’d do differently next time would be to buy a drive-away awning for a bit more storage when all 5 of us go away.
