Here are our six top tips for touring in the new CamperKing T7 Go! campervan

As an experienced campervanner, I twigged long ago that preparation to go on a touring holiday is key – and that starts long before I turn the ignition key.

I’ve toured in Europe and Africa, but the country that gives me the most enjoyment is right here at home. And in the UK you don’t have to travel far to enjoy a change of scenery.

Here are my top tips for stress-free adventures in your new CamperKing T7 Go! VW campervan.

1. Plan your route

Think fuel efficiency, traffic pinch points and vehicle size. The chances are you’re behind the wheel of a larger vehicle than the daily driver normally parked outside your home, so be aware of its size and weight in case the roads ahead of you have restrictions. I keep a sticky note on the inside of my sun visor listing the van’s key dimensions and weight.

2. Consider the campsite

Are there hard-standings? What is the facilities block like? Shop around for a good price, take advantage of low-season discounts, and consider whether you need an electric hook-up. The CamperKing T7 Go! can provide a couple of days of off-grid use in mixed conditions, but it works best when hooked up, ensuring you can use the interior power sockets and keeping the battery in its best possible condition.

3. Use a departure checklist

A handy list will help you remember all the essentials that don’t live permanently in your VW Transporter campervan – it’s easy to leave something essential behind (think wash kit or pillows). Take less clothes than you think you need, and remember to pack a sense of adventure. Fortunately, the T7 Go! has plenty of storage space thanks to some large cupboards and even the option to add in more in our long wheelbase model. 4. Be ready for the road

Have you checked the fluid levels or tyre pressure recently? Remember too that when touring on the Continent, there are different road regulations to home that must be adhered to. Fortunately, T7 Go! comes with VW’s standard wheels, so the road-feel is comfortable while providing superior mileage to the gallon.

5. “Are we nearly there yet?”

If you’re travelling with the kids or grandchildren, be prepared for this question, especially if you’re still within a mile from home! Ensure there’s something on board to keep the kids happy. And as a last resort, Eye Spy can eat into the clock. The rear bench seat is a comfortable place to travel though, and with ISOFIX anchor points for child car seats, your little companions may even get a chance to doze off.

6. Don’t drive tired

Plan in breaks especially for longer trips. The VW Transporter is a nimble vehicle to drive compared to larger campervans and motorhomes, so take the opportunity to stop somewhere off the beaten track before arriving at your destination. And with T7 Go! you’ve got your home from home on wheels, so make the most of it. Fancy a brew anyone?

Advance preparation ensures the touring holiday starts the moment you set off. So if you’re thinking about buying a new campervan conversion based on the VW transporter at a competitive price, starting from £59,500 new, check out the CamperKing T7 Go!
