Jason Robinson's guide to camping at the Six Nations!
We’re not far away now from one of rugby’s showpiece tournaments of the international calendar, the Guinness Six Nations. As you may be aware, there is a certain affinity towards rugby union here at CamperKing, with many keen followers of the sport. Thanks to our ambassador, former England Rugby Union international Jason Robinson, fans of the sport also have the chance to win a pair of tickets to watch England vs Italy on February 12th! With all the excitement building towards the start of play on Saturday, February 4th, Jason himself has looked at campsites around each country’s stadium, meaning you won’t miss any of the excitement.
Twickenham: Walton on Thames Camping and Caravanning Club Site
Despite being situated within London’s M25 motorway, and only 15 miles from the capital itself, the Camping and Caravanning Club Site at Walton on Thames is in fact incredibly peaceful. Located less than five miles away from Twickenham Stadium itself, it is the closest campsite to England's home games.
Suitable for campervans, the site also allows pets, as well as being close to numerous activities, such as mountain biking, llama trekking, and some lovely walks. The Camping and Caravanning Club's Walton on Thames site is one of their few members only campsites, with people able to join as a member from just £45 a year.
England will be hosting Scotland at home on February 4th, Italy on the 12th, and finally France on March 11th.
Murrayfield: Edinburgh Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite
The Caravan and Motorhome Club site in Edinburgh is just six miles away from the home of Scottish Rugby, and if you’ve never been to Scotland’s capital, allow us to sell it to you in a sentence.
The castle, the Royal Mile, the zoo, the culture, the nightlife, the food, the atmosphere; it really is a city that has everything you could ever want.
The site itself allows for tent campers, caravans, campervans and motorhomes, and also has the sandy Silverknowes Beach close by.
Scotland's opening home game of the Six Nations will be against the Welsh on the 11th of February, with Ireland visiting on March 12th, and finishing off against Italy on the 18th of March.
Principality Stadium: Cardiff Caravan & Camping Park
Located in Pontcanna Fields, right in the heart of the city centre, the Cardiff Caravan & Camping Park allows you to enjoy a largely rural setting within the heart of the Welsh capital. Once you’re there, the Principality Stadium is just walking distance away, allowing you to take in the hustle and bustle of a Six Nations matchday with the thousands of adoring Welsh fans flocking to the city.
The beauty of being in the centre of Cardiff will also allow you to experience the rest of the city, such as Cardiff Castle, all while being a mere amble back to the site in the evening.
Cardiff will play host to two games in this year's tournament, with the opening game being played against Scotland on February 4th, and then setting up for a big clash against England on the 25th.
Aviva Stadium: Camac Valley Camping Park
Now it’s time to hop on a ferry over the Irish sea, where we find ourselves in the Emerald Isle itself, landing in a lovely city you may have heard of, Dublin. From stag do’s to hen nights, culture seekers to big drinkers, the Irish capital has seen them all come and go, and with a half-hour drive outside of the bright lights you’ll find yourself arriving at Camac Valley Camping Park, on the edge of Corkagh Park.
Again, Dublin needs no introduction, but the quiet campsite will allow you time to relax before venturing to the Aviva Stadium for the big game.
The Aviva will be rocking for both of Ireland's home games in this tournament, as France visit Dublin on February 11th, and a finale against England happening on the 18th of March.
Stade de France: Camping De Paris
Travelling across the Channel, we reach the shores of our French cousins, and eventually, we’ll reach Paris. Travel to the Seine next to the Polo de Paris Golf Club, and you’ll come across a pleasant little campsite called Camping De Paris. Accommodating all types of camper, the site also offers wood-fired pizzas, cooked in a delightful converted Airstream trailer.
The location of the site allows you easy access to the Metro system, meaning the city is at your fingertips. Mooch on over to Saint-Denis, and you’ll be able to join the 80,000 revellers watching Les Bleus take on the rest of Europe.
The defending Grand Slam winners will play host to two fixtures in 2023's Six Nations, with Scotland visiting on the last weekend in February, and then Wales on the final day in March.
Stadio Olimpico: Fabulous Village
Fabulous Village sits on the outskirts of Rome, requiring a 45-minute drive to the Stadio Olimpico, but it is also accessible by public transport. Once at the Village, you’ll get a sense of why it is so highly rated, with numerous activities available, such as beach volleyball, football, mini golf, and many others!
With plenty of pitches, the Italian sunshine will prove a great hit with the family, as will the waterslide and outdoor pool. If you don’t fancy cooking, the site also provides a restaurant, where you can indulge in all of the fantastic options available. It’s a little pricier than the other options mentioned as a place to stay, but the four-star resort certainly has plenty to offer.
Revellers can enjoy three games in the stunning Rome spring sunshine this year, with France visiting on February 5th, Ireland on the 25th, and Wales on March 11th.
