CamperKing Ambassador Alix Popham continued his charity preparations for a Channel swim by hosting a training weekend near Tenby, Pembrokeshire.
The former Welsh rugby union international, who now runs a charity campaigning for changes to the sport's rules to prevent traumatic brain injury, is swimming the English Channel in October in relay with a team of ex-rugby professionals.
To prepare for the swim, Alix has been helping to keep the other participants motivated by holding meet-ups, with one previously in January and another having just taken place at Trevayne Farm Camping and Caravan Park, on the cliffs above the lovely seaside resort of Tenby.
Alix, 43, became a CamperKing ambassador in late 2022, knowing that he needed a campervan to help with many of the forthcoming challenges he was organising on behalf of his charity - Head for Change - which he runs with his wife, Mel.
We were delighted to support him, and in November, Alix collected his campervan. This has allowed Alix to pursue other charitable feats, such as cycling from Cardiff's Principality Stadium to Edinburgh's Murrayfield earlier this year. His efforts will culminate in The Big Rugby Swim in October.
Joined by a whole host of famous rugby faces, Alix and his teammates were supported by the scenic Trevayne Farm over the weekend of May 12th, where CamperKing joined them for their inaugural open water swimming tests.
Altogether, more than 20 former professionals took part in the event, which ultimately will help to raise awareness of Head for Change and its support for former professionals suffering the effects of repeated head trauma as a result of impacts in their sport.
Head for Change is supported by names such as footballer-turned-pundit Gary Lineker, former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas and Welsh rugby legend Shane Williams.
Alix himself was diagnosed with early onset dementia in 2020 as a result of his time in the game, where it is estimated he received more than 100,000 minor concussions during both training and matches.
Alix and members of the CamperKing team will also be returning to Trevayne Farm in the not-too-distant future, as they take part in The Wales Swim at the end of June, also held in Tenby.
